Juicy strawberries soak up a zesty blend of light rum and fresh lime juice, then get a dazzling roll in sparkly white sugar. Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups light rum
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 quart medium-sized strawberries with their stems
  • 1 cup white sugar

Instructions:

  1. In a large measuring cup, blend the rum and lime juice. With a toothpick, gently puncture the strawberries in several spots. Arrange the berries, stem side up, snugly in a 9-by-5-inch loaf pan so they're propped upright. Pour the rum-lime mixture over the fruit and refrigerate for a minimum of 6 hours or overnight for deeper flavor.
  2. After soaking, carefully drain and reserve the rum mixture (see Cook's Note). Spread the sugar on a plate. Gently roll each berry in the sugar until coated. Place on a serving tray and serve immediately.

Cook's Note: To use the rum mixture as a beverage: Pour the strained rum-lime liquid into a pitcher packed with ice, add 1/2 cup simple syrup (or to taste), 2 cups cold water, a few mint sprigs, and a few lime slices.
