Ingredients
- 1 pound green beans, ends trimmed
- Pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cups milk
- teaspoon garlic powder
- teaspoon dry mustard
- Pinch of ground black pepper
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
Instructions
- In a large saut pan over medium heat, bring 1/4 cup water to a boil. Add the green beans and a pinch of salt, cover, and steam 2 minutes. Remove the lid, raise heat to high, and cook until the water evaporates, about 1 minute.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon butter and cook 12 minutes more until the beans are crisp-tender. Remove from heat.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the remaining 3 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook, stirring constantly, until golden, about 2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, garlic powder, dry mustard, black pepper, and cayenne. Whisk until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.
- Stir in the shredded Cheddar and softened cream cheese until fully melted and smooth.
- Serve the cheese sauce poured over the green beans or alongside as a dip.
