Transform your holidays with this vibrant, tangy Sweet and Sour Red Cabbagea crowd-pleasing side that bursts with flavor and color! Perfect for pairing with roasts or holiday feasts, it's quick to make and sure to impress.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium shallot, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 to 3 pounds red cabbage, thinly shredded (approximately 10 cups)
  • cup red Burgundy wine
  • 1 cups balsamic vinegar
  • cup granulated sugar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a 12-inch skillet, saut the shallots and garlic in butter over medium heat for about 1 minute, until they turn golden. Add the shredded cabbage.
  2. Pour in the wine to deglaze the skillet, scraping up any browned bits from the pan with a wooden spoon. Mix in the balsamic vinegar and sugar. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Raise heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring continuously to prevent the sugar from scorching. Lower the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes until the liquid reduces by approximately three-quarters.
