Frosting Color Guide
You can combine these shades using a standard box of red (r), yellow (y), blue (b) and green (g) food coloring. Blend 1 cup frosting with the number of drops specified. (Don't worry: 100 drops equals roughly 1 teaspoon.) If using store-bought white frosting, refer to the numbers in brackets.
Preparation
Prepare vanilla cupcakes.
Then prepare pure-white frosting. It works best for tinting. Do not include vanilla extract as it will change the shade.
