Running my daughter's nursery school bake sale, I whipped up these irresistible brown butter crispy rice treatsand they stole the show as everyone's top pick! Upgrade your classic favorite with nutty, golden-brown butter for deeper flavor, plus crushed butter crackers for that crave-worthy salty crunch against the marshmallow sweetness. I sprinkled edible gold glitter for flair, but these gems dazzle on their own. Get ready to wow the crowd with this easy, game-changing treat![1][2]

Ingredients

  • 1 stick (8 tablespoons) salted butter, plus extra for greasing
  • 10 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 cups puffed rice cereal
  • 3 cups butter crackers, lightly crushed (such as Ritz, don't crush too small)
  • Flaky sea salt, for topping

Instructions

  1. Coat a 9-by-13-inch pan with a bit of butter, then line it with parchment paper. Put aside.
  2. Place a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-low heat. Cut the butter into pieces and let it melt, stirring occasionally, until it turns a golden brown shade and gives off a nutty aromathis should take about 6 to 8 minutes.[1][3][5]
  3. Add the mini marshmallows and stir constantly until almost completely melted, about 2 to 3 minutes (a few lumps remaining is fine). Lower the heat, then pour in the vanilla, followed by the puffed rice cereal and crushed butter crackers. Stir well so everything is coated.
  4. Right away, press the warm mixture into the prepared baking dish. For smoother results, use the back of a greased measuring cup to even out the top. Finish with a light dusting of flaky sea salt and let the treats cool for at least 30 minutes for them to set before cutting and serving.[4][5][6]
  5. To keep them fresh and soft, wrap each piece individually in plastic wrap so they won't go stale or hard.
