Overnight oats are an easy make-ahead breakfast. This version channels Black Forest cake by combining cherries and cocoa for a rich, sweet flavor, while yogurt adds protein and a silky texture.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened plain almond milk
- 6 tablespoons almond butter
- 3 tablespoons cherry preserves
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 4 teaspoons maple syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup frozen dark sweet cherries, thawed and chopped
- Two 5-ounce containers plain Greek or coconut yogurt
- Grated dark chocolate for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Make the base: In a large lidded container, whisk together the almond milk, almond butter, cherry preserves, cocoa powder, maple syrup, almond extract, and salt.
- Add oats: Stir in the rolled oats until fully combined. Cover and refrigerate overnight (or at least 68 hours) until thickened.
- Assemble: The next day, stir the oat mixture and divide it evenly among four 810 ounce jars or glasses.
- Layer cherries & finish: Fold or layer the chopped cherries into each jar, top with a spoonful of yogurt, and sprinkle with grated dark chocolate if desired.
