I believe burger buns are at their best when given a light toast. For a grill, grill pan, or griddle, slice the buns in half and place them cut side down on the heated surface; toast until they're a pale golden colorabout 10 seconds. Alternatively, arrange the split halves cut side up on a baking tray and slide them under a preheated broiler; toast just until lightly golden, roughly 30 seconds. Watch closely to avoid over-toasting, because too much browning will change the bun's texture and defeat the purpose of starting with a soft roll.
