Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons (about 3/4 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large garlic cloves, smashed
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried herbes de Provence, crushed
- 1/4 cup neutral oil (vegetable or peanut)
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1/3 cup Asiago cheese, finely grated
Instructions
- Put the butter, garlic, and herbes de Provence into a small saucepan. Warm over medium-low heat just until the butter melts, then remove from heat and let it sit while you make the popcorn.
- Place the oil and popcorn kernels in a large, sturdy pot. Cover with a lid and cook over medium-high heat, shaking the pot occasionally, until most kernels have popped. Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl.
- Remove and discard the garlic cloves from the butter mixture if you prefer.
- Pour the garlic-herb butter, kosher salt, and grated Asiago over the popcorn. Toss thoroughly to coat evenly and serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
