Meatballs Ingredients
- 1 pounds ground sirloin
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, peeled, crushed, and minced
- teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
- cup grated Parmigiano or Romano cheese
- Coarse salt and ground black pepper to taste
5-Minute Marinara Sauce Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed and chopped
- teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley
- teaspoon dried oregano
- One 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
- One 14-ounce can chunky crushed tomatoes
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Assembly Ingredients
- 4 semolina crusty sub rolls
- One 10-ounce bag shredded Provolone or Italian 4-cheese blend
- Shredded fresh basil or spicy arugula leaves, for garnish
Oven Fries Ingredients
- 4 medium white-skinned potatoes, sliced into 8 lengthwise wedges each
- Extra-virgin olive oil, enough to coat
- Grill seasoning blend or coarse salt and black pepper
Meatballs Instructions
Step 1: Heat oven to 450F.
Step 2: Put ground sirloin in a large bowl and create a well in the middle. Add the egg, bread crumbs, onion, garlic, red pepper flakes, Worcestershire sauce, parsley, cheese, salt, and pepper into the well. Mix the meatball ingredients just until combinedavoid overworking. Divide into 4 portions, then shape each into 4 balls and space evenly on a nonstick baking sheet. Bake for about 12 minutes. Cut open one to ensure it's fully cooked before removing from oven.
Sauce Instructions
Step 3: Warm a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add olive oil and garlic. Once garlic begins sizzling, add herbs and red pepper flakes. Let the oil infuse for about 30 seconds, then stir in both cans of crushed tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer, lower heat, and let it cook gently while the meatballs finish baking.
Assembly Instructions
Step 4: When meatballs are done, mix them with sauce and pile 4 meatballs into each sub roll. Top with shredded cheese, then place subs under the broiler until the cheese melts. Garnish with shredded basil or arugula, and serve alongside Oven Fries.
Oven Fries Instructions
Step 1: Drizzle potato wedges generously with extra-virgin olive oil. Toss with grill seasoning or salt and pepper. Arrange evenly on a nonstick baking sheet and roast for 20 minutes or until tender. Shake the pan after 10 minutes to prevent sticking.
