Ingredients
- 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon molasses
- 1 tablespoon orange juice
- 1 tablespoon finely grated orange zest
- 2 3/4 to 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger

Directions
- Imagine the irresistible aroma of warm spices filling your kitchen! In a bowl or with a stand mixer, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy and pale. Add the egg and beat well, then incorporate the molasses, orange juice, and grated zest for that bright citrus kick. Sift the dry ingredients and gradually mix them into the wet mixture to form a soft, smooth dough. If the dough feels sticky, add a bit more flour. Knead it lightly three times on a surface dusted with flour.
- Divide the dough into three logs, each about 8 inches in length, wrap them securely in plastic, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or up to overnightperfect for prepping ahead and building excitement for baking day.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Cut the chilled logs into very thin slices, thinner than 1/8-inch. Arrange the slices on baking sheets lightly coated with grease.
- Bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes until donethese crisp, spicy snaps with hints of orange will melt in your mouth! Take them out of the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. Share the joy with friends and family; they're sure to become a holiday favorite.
