Ingredients
- 8 ounces ground sweet Italian sausage
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce, plus additional for dipping
- Nonstick spray, for coating the baking surface
- Two 8-ounce cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 4 ounces deli ham slices, halved
- 16 slices pepperoni
- 5 slices Mozzarella or Provolone cheese, halved (about 5 ounces)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon Italian herb blend
- Special tools: a 5-inch ramekin
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375F. In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage, breaking it apart and stirring occasionally, until browned and fully cooked, about 6 to 7 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and mix with the pizza sauce. Let it cool for about 15 minutes.
- Spray the backside of a baking sheet with nonstick spray. Open both crescent dough cans and separate into 16 triangles. Place the 5-inch ramekin in the middle of the baking sheet. Arrange the triangles around the ramekin in a circular pattern so the shorter sides touch the ramekin, slightly overlapping, and the pointed ends face outward, forming a large sun shape.
- Spoon the sausage mixture onto the short ends of the dough triangles near the ramekin. Layer the ham slices over the sausage. Add the pepperoni on top of the ham, then cover with cheese halves. Remove the ramekin carefully. Lift the pointed tip of each triangle and fold it over the filling, tucking the tip under the base dough edge to secure it (note the filling won't be fully covered). Continue folding all triangles (some gaps may reveal the filling).
- Bake until the dough turns golden and the cheese melts, roughly 25 minutes. Brush the baked dough with melted butter and sprinkle with the Italian seasoning. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before transferring the ring with a spatula onto a serving platter. Serve alongside extra pizza sauce for dipping.
