Ingredients

  • 1 slice of your preferred bread
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Use a biscuit cutter or the edge of a glass to cut a circular hole in the middle of the bread slice.
  2. Warm a skillet over medium-low heat and melt the butter evenly. Once melted, lay the bread in the pan and carefully crack the egg into the hole.
  3. Cook until the egg begins to set on the bottom (about 30-45 seconds). Season with salt and pepper. After about a minute, flip the bread and egg with a spatula, then season the other side.
  4. Gently move the toast around the skillet to soak up the butter. Continue cooking until the yolk is soft and tender. Aim for golden-brown toast, fully set egg whites, and an intact, runny yolk.
