Ingredients:

  • 4 cups (540 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup (2 sticks; 226 grams) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups (400 grams) light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (333 grams) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (167 grams) dark chocolate chips
  • Flakey salt, for sprinkling
  • Vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, rainbow sprinkles, and maraschino cherries for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Position an oven rack in the center and preheat oven to 350F. Line two rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder until evenly blended. Set aside.
  3. Using a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and brown sugar together until just combined, scraping the sides and bottom as needed. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until incorporated. Slowly add the flour mixture and mix until barely combined. Fold in both types of chocolate chips.
  4. Using a slightly heaping 1/2-cup scoop, portion the dough onto the prepared sheets, placing 6 cookies per sheet and spacing them evenly. Gently press each dough mound to flatten into a puck shape. Sprinkle the tops with flakey salt. At this stage, you may bake immediately or freeze for later.
  5. Bake until the edges turn golden and the tops are lightly browned, about 15 to 20 minutes. For frozen dough, start checking doneness at 20 minutes.
