Ingredients:
- 4 cups seedless California black grapes, washed
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon vodka (optional helps keep the sorbet smoother)
Instructions:
- Combine the grapes, sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice in a blender and pure until completely smooth.
- Pour the pure into a saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat; let it boil about 30 seconds, then remove from heat.
- Pass the hot mixture through a fine sieve, discarding any solids.
- Stir in the vodka, if using.
- Cover and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.
- Pour the chilled base into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions. If you don't have an ice cream maker, freeze the mixture in a wide, shallow pan and stir every 1015 minutes until it reaches sorbet consistency.
- Serve immediately or transfer to a container with a tight-fitting lid and freeze until firm.

Notes:
- The vodka is optional but helps prevent the sorbet from becoming too icy, producing a smoother texture.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the vodka.
- For best scooping texture after long freezing, let the sorbet sit at room temperature a few minutes before serving.
