Ingredients:

  • 4 cups seedless California black grapes, washed
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon vodka (optional helps keep the sorbet smoother)

Instructions:

  • Combine the grapes, sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice in a blender and pure until completely smooth.
  • Pour the pure into a saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat; let it boil about 30 seconds, then remove from heat.
  • Pass the hot mixture through a fine sieve, discarding any solids.
  • Stir in the vodka, if using.
  • Cover and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.
  • Pour the chilled base into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions. If you don't have an ice cream maker, freeze the mixture in a wide, shallow pan and stir every 1015 minutes until it reaches sorbet consistency.
  • Serve immediately or transfer to a container with a tight-fitting lid and freeze until firm.
