Ingredients
- 1 pound hot ground Italian sausage, roasted and finely chopped
- 1/2 cup Locatelli Romano cheese
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 large egg
- Olive oil for sauting
- 4 banana peppers (choose Hungarian hots or mild according to preference)
- 1 cup marinara sauce, warmed for serving
- Wedge of dry ricotta cheese
Directions
Step 1: Prepare the Filling
Combine the sausage, cheese, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, and egg in a mixing bowl. Season the mixture to your liking. Adjust the texture by adding extra cheese or bread crumbs if it feels too dry or too wet; aim for a medium moisture level suitable for stuffing.
Step 2: Prepare the Peppers
Make a circular cut around the top of each banana pepper, keeping the top attached. Pull back the tops and remove the seeds if preferred.
Step 3: Fill the Peppers
Carefully fill each pepper with the prepared mixture.
Step 4: Cook the Peppers
Heat olive oil in a saut pan over medium heat. Place the stuffed peppers gently in the pan and cook each side until golden brown.
Step 5: Serve
Place warmed marinara sauce on the center of a serving plate, arrange the peppers on top, and finish by grating dry ricotta cheese over the hot peppers before serving.
