Ingredients
- 2 pounds lean ground beef, frozen
- 1 yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Taco shells, warmed according to packaging directions
- Variety of toppings such as sour cream, shredded Cheddar, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, avocado, sliced black olives, and hot sauce
Special Equipment
A 6- or 8-quart Instant Pot multi-cooker
Instructions
- Pour 1 cup of water into a 6-quart Instant Pot and add the frozen ground beef. Secure the lid following the manufacturer's instructions. Set to pressure cook on high manual pressure for 10 minutes (see Cook's Note).
- When the cooking cycle finishes, follow the manufacturer's guidelines for a quick release of pressure. Once all steam has dissipated, unlock and remove the lid carefully.
- Switch the Instant Pot to sauté mode. Stir in the chopped onion, garlic, chili powder, cumin, cornstarch, 1 tablespoon salt, and 2 teaspoons pepper until everything is well combined and the ground beef is broken apart. Let it cook until the mixture thickens and the onions soften, about 8 minutes.
- Serve the beef mixture with warmed taco shells and your preferred toppings.
Note: Cooking settings can differ depending on the Instant Pot model. Always refer to the manufacturer's manual for best results.
