Ingredients:
- One 32-ounce bag of frozen potato tots, such as Tater Tots
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound ground sirloin (85/15 or 90/10)
- 1 medium white onion, chopped (reserve 2 tablespoons for garnish)
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- One 15-ounce can of tomato sauce
- 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
- 1 cup processed cheese sauce, like Cheese Whiz, warmed
Instructions:
- Preheat oven and bake the potato tots on a baking sheet as directed on the package, about 20 minutes.
- While the tots bake, prepare the chili. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef, almost all of the onion (saving 2 tablespoons for garnish), garlic, chili powder, cumin, 1 teaspoon salt, and teaspoon black pepper. Cook, breaking the beef into small pieces, until fully browned, about 4 to 5 minutes.
- Pour in the tomato sauce and bring to a simmer. Cook while stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Layer baked tots on plates, top with chili and sprinkle Cheddar. Add another layer of tots, more chili and cheese, then drizzle with warm cheese sauce. Garnish with reserved onion and serve hot for ultimate satisfaction!
